Technology
Minesto is developing a new concept for tidal plants called Deep Green. Deep Green will make a step change of cost for tidal energy and has the possibility to be profitable in areas where no other known plant is efficient enough to be placed. The technology in Deep Green is still confidential and will be revealed when the company has reasons to do so. In general for tidal energy, plants offer:
- Electricity production that is predictable and at the same time has an endless renewable cycle. At this point, tidal energy has high potential for higher electricity generation compared to other renewable alternatives including wave, wind and solar power.
- Minimal visual impact. The plant, Deep Green, is mounted to the ocean bed and, during operation, never gets closer to the surface than 10 meters. For that reason, Deep Green gives no visual impact above the surface. The plant is designed to have minimum affect on animals, organisms and plants that live in the ocean environment.
- Good economy. Deep Green is a new concept that creates large economical value for customers and investors through its focus on innovation. Thanks to the reliable tidal currents, Deep Green is able to produce renewable energy to cost that competes with traditional electricity production without any harmful emissions such as carbon dioxide.
